Our Fearless Predictions for N.Ky. boys games

By Ray Schaefer
Enquirer contributor

        Simon Kenton at Campbell County

        WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today, Campbell County HS, 25 W. Lickert Rd., Alexandria

WHAT TO WATCH: Simon Kenton (18-6), ranked fourth in The Enquirer's Northern Kentucky coaches' poll, has a three-game winning streak and a 5-1 record in the past six games. No. 7 Campbell County (13-7) is 5-2 in its past seven games.

Campbell County's Kevin Reinhardt and Simon Kenton's Jordan Stowers are the marquee players, but this game could be decided by the supporting casts. Simon Kenton's Kevin Cristello led the Pioneers with 14 points in Tuesday's win over against Lloyd Memorial.

        PICK: Simon Kenton.

        Dixie Heights at Conner

WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today, Conner HS, 3310 Cougar Path, Hebron

WHAT TO WATCH: No. 8 Dixie (16-7) is 6-1 in its past seven games, but the Colonels also are 1-4 against higher ranked teams (a 57-54 win over Covington Catholic on Jan. 30 is the only victory). No. 5 Conner's not a whole lot better. The Cougars beat Simon Kenton but lost to CovCath and Newport Central Catholic.

        PICK: Conner.

        Covington Catholic at Frankfort

WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today, Frankfort HS, 328 Shelby St., Frankfort

WHAT TO WATCH: The top team in the Enquirer's poll, CovCath has picked up its offense the lately. The Colonels are 7-1 in their past eight games and have averaged 71 points a game over their past four.

Frankfort's offense has sputtered lately. The Panthers are 3-1 over their past four games, but they scored 55 and 54 points in their past two.

        PICK: Covington Catholic.

Holy Cross at Newport Central Catholic

WHEN/WHERE: 6 p.m. Saturday, Newport Central Catholic HS, 13 Carothers Rd., Newport

WHAT TO WATCH: Second-ranked NewCath prepares for its home showdown Tuesday against CovCath.

Holy Cross has struggled - the Indians are 2-3 in February.

        PICK: Newport Central Catholic.

        Other games

        Scott over Ryle
        Beechwood over Calvary Christian
        Holmes over Newport
        Silver Grove over Ludlow
        Boone County over Lloyd Memorial
