Austin to fight on Holyfield undercard

LAS VEGAS — Tim Austin of Cincinnati will make the sixth defense of his International Boxing Federation bantamweight title against No.1 contender Jesus Perez in the top undercard bout of Holyfield-Ruiz March 3 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

The fight will be live on pay per view.

Austin (21-0-1, 19 KOs), won the 118-pound title on an eighth-round TKO over Mbuelo Botile on July 19, 1997. The 1992 Olympian has won four of his five title defenses by knockout. Overall, Austin has won 11 consecutive bouts, including nine by knockout. The only blemish on his record came in April 1995 when his bout with Javier Diaz ended in a first-round technical draw. Austin won a 10-round decision in the rematch one month later.

In his last bout, Austin retained his crown for the fifth time by scoring a shutout in a unanimous decision over then-No. 2 contender Arthur Johnson.

In the main event, Evander Holyfield (37-4-1, 25 KOs) will put his World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight title on the line in a rematch against John “The Quiet Man” Ruiz (36-4, 27 KOs).
