Miami adds size to football roster

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Miami emphasized adding beef to its roster during the recruiting season. Ten of the 21 players the RedHawks signed Wednesday are offensive or defensive linemen.

“I wanted to increase our numbers on the offensive and defensive lines,” coach Terry Hoeppner said. “And we've done that. We needed more quality depth and this class does that.”

The RedHawks also added a familiar name: Matt Cohen, the youngest brother of former Miami star Dustin Cohen: Matt, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker, was a four-year starter at Cincinnati Country Day.

He is one of five area players to sign with MU. The others: Hamilton Badin's Nate Bunce, an offensive and defensive lineman; Chris Fessel, an offensive lineman from St. Xavier; Derek Rehage, a running back from East Central (Ind.), and Jarrod Rich, a linebacker from Clinton-Massie.

Josh Betts, the Southwest Ohio Player of the Year, also signed with Miami. Betts, a 6-3, 210-pound quarterback, threw for 2,817 yards and 19 touchdowns for Vandalia Butler this year.
