McNicholas knocks off Elder in OT

After pulling off their biggest upset of the season Saturday with a victory over Cleveland St. Ignatius, which was ranked No.1 in Ohio in Division I, the Elder Panthers were victims of an upset Tuesday night.
The McNicholas Rockets, ranked No.2 in The Enquirer's Divisions II-IV area coaches poll, upset Elder, ranked No.3 in Division I, 68-65 in overtime at McNicholas.
Jarrod Lawhon scored seven points in overtime and the Rockets converted eight of 11 free throws in overtime. Nat Dyment and Lawhon each made a 3-pointer in the closing minute to clinch it.
The game was sent to overtime when Elder's Scott Benken scored on a layup at the buzzer.
Brian Chrin scored 13 points and Bryan Cupito also had 13 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Rockets.
Benken had 24 points and Jake Bazeley had 21 for the Panthers.
The loss dropped the Panthers a game behind Moeller in the GCL South. The Panthers will play the Crusaders at Moeller on Friday.
