Our Fearless Predictions for N.Ky. games
By Ray Schaefer
Enquirer contributor
Scott at Campbell County
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today, Campbell County HS, 25 W. Lickert Rd., Alexandria
WHAT TO WATCH: Scott, the No.3 team in The Enquirer's Northern Kentucky poll, has won its past eight games.
Campbell County junior Kevin Reinhardt is one of the best forwards in Northern Kentucky, and he averages 19.1 points a game. But Scott has three players who average in double-figures: senior guards Chris Thompson and Bryan Stevenson (17.3 and 14.2 points a game, respectively); and junior center Ben Lye adds another 12.9.
PICK: Scott.
Covington Catholic at Holmes
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today, Holmes HS, corner of Madison Ave. and 25th Street, Covington
WHAT TO WATCH: CovCath's win over Elder on Tuesday extended the Colonels' winning streak to nine. In that run, CovCath scored at least 70 points eight times. It also proved the Enquirer's co-No. 1 team can beat a Greater Catholic League team - the Colonels were 1-4 against the Ohio schools.
Holmes has struggled to an 8-7 record, included three losses in its past four games.
PICK: Covington Catholic.
Holy Cross at St. Henry
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today, St. Henry District HS, 3755 Scheben Drive, Erlanger
WHAT TO WATCH: Holy Cross has only itself to blame for last week's 65-60 lost in the Ninth Region All A semifinals. The Indians committed three turnovers in the last minute.
Holy Cross has to contain the St. Henry threesome of seniors Nick Love and Andrew Vieth and junior Jeff Eisenmenger. The Crusaders, meanwhile, had better not allow Holy Cross senior Josh Beiting to score another 34 points.
PICK: St. Henry.
Boone County at Conner
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today, Conner HS, 3310 Cougar Path, Hebron
WHAT TO WATCH: Boone County and Conner are heading in opposite directions. The Rebels have had a week to think about their three consecutive losses, while the Cougars are 13-2.
PICK: Conner.
Dixie Heights at Lloyd
WHEN/WHERE: Lloyd HS, 450 Bartlett Ave., Erlanger
WHAT TO WATCH: Dixie Heights suffered one of its toughest losses lat season to Lloyd, 62-51, in last season's 34th District tournament.
Tonight's game features two teams struggling to find consistency. Dixie is 10-8 overall and 1-4 against Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Division I teams, while Lloyd fell to 8-9 with Tuesday's loss to Scott.
PICK: Dixie Heights.
