Kettering Alter holds off Moeller

        Doug Peno sank consecutive free throws in the closing minutes to give Kettering Alter, ranked No.1 in The Associated Press Division II state poll, a 50-46 victory over Moeller at Moeller.

        Playing without leading scorer Matt Sylvester, suspended for two games by the Ohio High School Athletic Association for an altercation vs. Walnut Hills, Moeller fell behind 28-19 at halftime.

        Nick Monserez led Moeller with 19 points.

        • St. Xavier 56, Purcell Marian 39 — Mike Grogan scored 17 points and Jordan Cornette added 16 to propel Greater Catholic League leader St.X past the Cavaliers.

        Grogan had an eight-point third quarter to help stretch a one-point Bombers halftime lead to 12 going into the fourth quarter. St.X is No.2 in the Enquirer's Division I poll.

        Keith Jackson's 19 points led Purcell, No.4 in the Enquirer's small-school poll.

               • Bethel-Tate 86, New Richmond 81 — Chris Gregory sank four free throws in the closing minutes to help Bethel-Tate hold on. The Tigers led by 17 entering the fourth quarter. New Richmond cut the lead to two with two minutes remaining but got no closer.

        New Richmond's Matt Armbruster led all scorers with 24 points. Adam Wylie scored 21, including 15 in the first half, for Bethel.
