The anniversary of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birth is being celebrated throughout the Tristate. Events include:
       

Today through Monday
        • The Cincinnati Museum Center will hold its 16th annual African Culture Fest. The event includes African music, dance and folklore. Visitors can sample African cuisine and shop at the African marketplace.

        Dr. William Theodore McDaniel Jr. of Ohio State University will speak about the contributions of African-American musicians to American and world culture and give an interactive presentation about the history of African-American music. The event is free, but some museum exhibits require admission. Information 287-7000.
       

Today
        • Nationally syndicated radio host Walt “Baby” Love will be the guest preacher at special services at Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Forest Park. Also featured will be organist Moses Tyler Jr. Services will be at 8 and 11 a.m. at the church, 10998 Southland Blvd. Information 825-4900.

        • Christ Church Cathedral downtown will hold an interfaith service commemorating the Rev. Dr. King at 4 p.m. Rev. Lorentho Wooden will preach and the Wilber force University Choir will sing. Information 621-1817.

        • The 12th annual service of prayer and song in memory of the Rev. Dr. King will take place at 7 30 p.m. at the Covington Cathedral. The interfaith litany features music and Scripture readings and is sponsored by the Diocese of Covington. Information (859) 491-5872.

Monday

        • At 8 a.m., the Arts Consortium will hold the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Breakfast at the Hyatt Regency on Fifth Street downtown. The consortium will present its Dreamkeeper Award to Rev. Damon Lynch III and also will present the JuniorDreamkeeper and Lifetime Achievement awards.

        • At 11 15 a.m., the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial March, “The Dream Peace, Justice and Equality for All,” begins at Fountain Square. After prayers and speeches, the group will march through downtown to Music Hall for a speech by Yale University's Dr. Ezra E.H. Griffith, and a program of music by several choirs.

        • At noon, “Convene for the Dream” workshops begin at the Northern Kentucky Community Center. Two 6 p.m. marches, one starting at the World Peace Bell in Newport and the other at the Community Center, will end at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center for a program of music, awards and speeches.

        • The Kenton County Public Library will hold its “Happy Birthday, Martin Luther King Jr.” event for children ages 7 to 12 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Mary Ann Mongan Library on Scott Street in Covington. A librarian will read stories about the Rev. Dr. King, and children can make friendship pins. Admission is free, but registration is required. Information (859) 491-7610.

        • The Teen Leadership Group of the Loveland Shalom Initiative will host its third annual celebration honoring the Rev. Dr. King from 6 to 8 p.m. at Loveland Middle-Intermediate School, 801 Lebanon Road in Loveland. The event features poetry, music, skits and African foods. Information 683-7195.

        • “Live the Dream Our Declaration of Unity,” featuring music, poetry and a keynote speaker, will take place at 7 p.m. at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 7600 Princeton-Glendale Road, West Chester Township. Information 860-4049.

Jan. 19

        • The Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Outreach Program at Children's Hospital Medical Center will hold a formal dinner at 7 p.m. at the Sharonville Convention Center. Proceeds benefit scholarships for 11th- and 12th-grade students with sickle-cell anemia. Dr. Ben Carson, director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, will speak.
