All right, Cincinnati: Here's your chance to put one foot in front of the other and get fit.
The Nutrition Council of Greater Cincinnati is sponsoring CincinnatiWalks, a communitywide fitness initiative aimed at helping Cincinnatians get fit.
The goal is to help Cincinnatians take at least 10,000 steps a day, says Lauren Niemes, executive director of the Nutrition Council. Most people take 3,000 to 5,000 steps daily.
Walking regularly has a number of health benefits, including improving cardiovascular health, reducing blood pressure, cutting the risk of diabetes, improving muscle tone and bone density. Regular exercise can also alleviate depression and arthritis.
For a $25 registration fee, participants receive a pedometer that tracks the number of steps they take and a special motivational booklet that includes tips on how to increase your physical activity during the day, along with space to record the number of steps you take every week.
For information, call the council at 621-3262 or check www.nutritioncouncil.org.
