N.Ky. girls basketball games


Bishop Brossart edges Shelby Valley

        Katie Schwegmann scored 36 points and Stephanie Clark had 17, including some clutch free throws, as Bishop Brossart beat Shelby Valley 81-79 in the quarterfinals of the Northern Kentucky Classic.

        Clark, a sophomore center, went 5-of-6 from the foul line late in the game after Schwegmann's 5-foot jumper gave the Mustangs a 73-71 lead.

        Schwegmann scored 15 of her 36 points in the fourth quarter and was 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Clark scored seven of her 17 points in the fourth.

        Schwegmann outdueled Shelby Valley's Summer Jones, who scored 28 points. She also had 10 rebounds.

        • Ludlow 64, Heritage 24 — Amanda Wise scored 13 of her game-high 22 points in the first half when the Panthers took a 36-12 lead. Ashley Pence added 16 points and eight assists for Ludlow.

        Vanessa Holtman led Heritage with 14 points.

        Sarah Woods added 14 points for the Lady Cougars. Samantha Hollingsworth led Dayton with 16 points.

        Newport advances to the semifinals at Bishop Brossart at 9a.m. Saturday against an opponent to be determined.

        • Scott County 68, Scott 61 — After trailing 35-22 at halftime, Scott cut the lead to six points going into the fourth quarter. But Scott County went on a 7-0 run to put away the game.

        Senior Amanda Matracia had 19 points and eight rebounds and senior Colleen Pairan added 16 points and 15 rebounds for Scott.

        Lerin Scott led Scott County with 24 points.
