Best and worst of week in sports

The Enquirer sports department's look at who rated — good and bad — this week in sports:

THE TOP 5

        1. Florida State: For the national championship the Seminoles are about to win. Grandpa Bowden rocks.

        2. Marshall: UC fans found out what Miami fans have known for years, those cats from Huntington can play. Marshall is a mini-Florida State. This was supposed to be a down year. The rest of the MAC ought to vote the Herd out if anyone else wants to go to a bowl game.

        3. Mario Lemieux: Beats cancer. Retires. Buys the team. Comes back. Kicks ice. Super, indeed.

        4. Marshall Faulk: MVP. How good is this guy? He had 81 catches for 830 yards The Bengals' starting wide receivers — Peter Warrick and Craig Yeast — combined for 75 catches for 893 yards. Well, maybe that says how bad the Bengals are ... but Faulk is really good.

        5. UC women's basketball: They've won eight straight, including one over ranked rival XU. Time to start thinking Top 25.

        BOTTOM FIVE

        1. Ken Anderson: Bumped down from offensive coordinator to quarterback coach and left to turn Akili into the next Klingler.

        2. Mike Brown: Team goes 4-12 but everyone keeps their job. No additional scouts. Those who paid $1,500 for 15-yard seats have to be awfully happy.

        3. Boston Celtics: What's up with them jumping on the court like they won a world title when all they did was beat the New Jersey Nets on a miracle shot? It was the Nets. Bill Russell probably isn't dancing in the streets.

        4. UC basketball fans: Finally sold out the Shoe for UNC-Wilmington after failing to break 13,000 for Boise State, Marshall and Oakland (we're not counting the XU game). Guess they didn't build the Shoe too small after all.

        5. UC schedule makers: Hey, we wouldn't camp out overnight to get tickets to the Boise and Oakland games.
