16-month-old bitten by Pit Bull

MIDDLETOWN - A 16-month-old girl was hospitalized Sunday night after she was bitten on the head by a Pit Bull dog.

Destiny Belcher was transported to Children's Hospital Medical Center in Dayton, where she was listed in fair condition late Sunday. Police and fire medics responded to the 1000 block of Park Lane about 9:20 p.m. after a report of a child bitten by a dog; they found the child with severe head lacerations. The child's mother's boyfriend, Delbert Kay, 24, told officers the girl had apparently gotten out of bed and entered another room where the dog was in a cage.

At some point the dog got out of the cage and attacked the 16-month-old, Mr. Kay told police. He pulled the dog's jaws off the child's head and resecured the dog before calling police.

The incident remains under investigation by Middletown police.
