The Associated Press
PRESTONVILLE, Ky. An 11-year-old boy died Sunday when his 9-year-old brother fell and accidentally discharged a shotgun while the two were hunting with their father in rural Carroll County, authorities said.
The shotgun blast hit the 11-year-old boy in the back of the head, state police said.
The shooting occurred about 11:44 a.m., in woods about 3 miles south of Prestonville, police said. The boy's father tried to drive to the hospital, but his truck stalled along Ky. 55. Another vehicle arrived and took the boy to the Carroll County Hospital, police said. The boy was airlifted from there to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, where he was pronounced dead about 6:30 p.m., police said.
No charges have been filed.
The names of the father and the boys were not available.
