Purcell-Portsmouth Scouting Report

WHO: Purcell Marian (8-3) vs. Portsmouth (11-0)

        DIVISION: III

WHEN/WHERE: 7 p.m. today, Richards Memorial Stadium, Rte. 50, Hillsboro.

        TICKETS: $5 at gate

        SEATING: 3,800

LAST WEEK: Purcell Marian 41, Gallipolis Gallia Academy 12; Portsmouth 34, Jackson 6.

KEY PLAYERS: Purcell Marian: Quarterback Adam White; tailback Justin Blackley (1,235 yards; fullback Vince Berry (765 yards), Portsmouth: Quarterback Josiah Young (37-of-90 for 994 yards, 12 TDs); tailbacks Joseph Parker (1,772 yards) and Jeremy Hamrick (1,098 yards and 17 TDs); receiver: D.J. Carter (21 receptions for 467, 6 TDs).

WHAT TO WATCH: The Cavaliers defense will be put to the test by a potent Portsmouth offense that averaged 40.2 points and 465 yards a game.

Young, a drop-back quarterback, completed 63 percent of his passes. But the running game is equally as explosive with Parker and Hamrick.

Purcell Marian's defense need to repeat its outstanding performance in last week's playoff victory. The Cavaliers forced seven turnovers in that game and forcing several more tonight seems almost necessary.
