N.Ky. high school highlights


Boone County, Scott boys earn district victories

The Cincinnati Enquirer

        Jeff Fichner scored two goals to lead Boone County to a 4-0 victory over Ryle on Saturday in District 25 play.

        The Rebels defeated Ryle by the same score during the regular season.

        • Scott 2, Simon Kenton 0, District 26 at Dixie Heights — The Eagles' Jeremey Moses scored both goals, giving him 14 for the season.

        Goalie Craig Barwell saved eight Simon Kenton shots.

Volleyball
        Leah Ballinger had 19 assists and Jennifer Kennedy made seven kills as Campbell County defeated Newport Central Catholic 16-14, 15-4 for the Region 6 championship Saturday.

        Both teams advance to the state tournament, Friday and Saturday at Ryle High School.

        Ballinger was named the tournament's most outstanding player. Erin Ling also made the all-tournament team for Campbell County (32-4).

        Krista Stucker had 20 assists for NCC (22-12). Kim Wetterstroem had eight kills and was named to the all-tournament team for the Thoroughbreds.

        Most outstanding player: Leah Ballinger.

        All-tournament: Abby Coppage (Simon Kenton), Kelly Cahner (Bishop Brossart), Sarah Woods (Calvary Christian), Molly Hall (Holy Cross), Natalie Forbes (Highlands), Beth Stroer (Scott), Kimm Wetterstroem (NCC), Kelly Koeninger (NCC), Erin Ling (Campbell Co.), Jennifer Kennedy (Campbell Co.).
