Locals win 3 state titles

Lakota West tops boys golf; Falk, Wiegands take tennis championships

Cincinnati-area individuals and teams combined to win three state championships Saturday.

Audra Falk, a Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy senior, won the Division II state singles championship for the third consecutive year.

“This year people expected me to win, and it's been tough all season,” said Falk. “The third championship means the most, because I went out a winner.”

Unlike Falk, Badin's Wiegand sisters, Nancy and Kylee, weren't expected to win a state championship. But they won the Division II doubles title.

Nancy, who was out of action with a back injury until the final week of the season, decided to play in the postseason at the last minute. It was her third appearance at the state tournament; the first two were as a singles player.

After 31 years of coaching golf at Lakota and Lakota West, Jack Buhi accepted the Division I state championship trophy after his Firebirds rallied from six strokes behind to overtake Ashland in Saturday's boys Division I state final. Lakota West won by five strokes.

Senior Kenton Hobbs led the Firebirds, shooting a 2-under-par 70 Saturday.
