Mighty Ducks 2, Norfolk 1
c
Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 21 shots and Jason Williams netted his first career goal as the AHL Cincinnati Mighty Ducks defeated the Norfolk Admirals 2-1 Saturday night at the Gardens.
Cincinnati won its fifth straight to remain the only undefeated team in the American Hockey League, while Norfolk suffered its second consecutive loss.
Giguere, property of NHL Anaheim, kept his goals-against average at league-best 1.00 while recording his fourth win on the season. Nine of Gigueres saves came in the third period, including six in the games final three minutes with the Ducks clinging to their one-goal lead.
Williams' game-winning goal came at 14:52 of the second period when he jammed a rebound past Norfolk goalie and Ohio State product Jeff Maund with Cincinnati on the power play. Bob Wren assisted on Williams goal to give the Ducks all-time leading scorer points in each of the last four games.
Mark Bell, Chicago Blackhawks first round pick in the 1998 NHL draft, spoiled Giguere's shutout bid with a power play goal 6:22 into the third.
