State tennis tournament

Falk moves on to semis

The Cincinnati Enquirer

One singles player and four doubles teams from the Cincinnati area remain in contention for state tennis titles following Friday's first- and second-round matches in Columbus.

Two-time defending Division II state singles champion Audra Falk, a senior at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, advanced to a semifinal match today against Maaria Husain of Marion Pleasant.

Also in Division I, Ursuline's doubles team of Brianne Petricone and Andrea Kelly won its first and second matches and will play the sisters Amanda and Rachel Taylor of Chillicothe today at 9 a.m.

The possibility of a local team winning a Division II doubles title is good — three of the four remaining teams are from the Cincinnati area. Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy's Jennifer Dektas and Lau ra Leutzinger, last year's state runners-up, and teammates Shaden Dowiatt and Lindsay Hanto reached the semifinals, along with Badin's Nancy and Kylee Wiegand.

The Wiegand sisters upset Dektas and Leutzinger in the semifinals of last week's district tournament and went on to win the championship.

Semifinals begin at 9 a.m. today, followed by the championship and third-place matches. Each player or team is guaranteed at least an hour break.
