Titles on line for Elder, Colerain, NCH, McNick
By Dave Schutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer
League championships will be at stake in some key football matchups tonight.
Elder, ranked No. 2 in The Enquirer's Division I poll, can wrap up the Greater Catholic League South championship with a victory over St. Xavier at Elder.
Elder is 2-0 in the GCL. Moeller is 2-1, St. X is 1-1. A St. X victory would create a three-way tie among Elder, Moeller and St. X.
Undefeated and No. 1 ranked Colerain (5-0 in GMC) can clinch at least a tie for the Greater Miami Conference championship with a victory over No. 4 Lakota West (4-1) at West.
North College Hill (4-1 in the Miami Valley Conference) hasn't won or shared a league title since 1968. The Trojans can clinch at least a tie with a victory at home over New Miami.
In the Greater Catholic League North Division, McNicholas will claim at least a share of the title with a victory Saturday over Badin at Hamilton Stadium.
If both McNicholas and Dayton Chaminade-Julienne win, they will share the championship.
Reading can take a major step toward a playoff bid and a Cincinnati Hills League title with a victory tonight at Wyoming. Reading is 4-1 in the CHL, one game behind Wyoming (5-0) with one league game remaining. The Blue Devils are fourth in the Division V Region 20 Harbin rankings. A victory would solidify a playoff bid.
