No. 4 Bacon edges No. 2 Badin

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Junior Ashley Janning scored on a pass from Jenny Joerger with 24 minutes remaining to give Roger Bacon, ranked No.4 in The Enquirer coaches poll, a 2-1 victory over No.2 Hamilton Badin in a girls soccer game Wednesday night.

“It has been a frustrating season so far,” Roger Bacon coach Jason Arszman said. “This is a positive note and a confidence builder.”

Badin took a 1-0 lead four minutes into the game on a penalty kick. Sophomore Meghan Hader tied the score on an unassisted goal with 10 minutes left in the first half.

        • Lisa Nolte and Tara Dixon scored second-half goals to lead Reading to a 3-1 upset of No.7 Taylor.

Nolte scored 13 minutes into the second half to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead. About two minutes later, Taylor scored to cut the lead to one, but Tara Dixon sealed the outcome for Reading, scoring with 11 minutes remaining.

        • Natalie Grien scored with four minutes remaining to give McAuley a 3-2 victory over Alter. McAuley built a 2-0 lead nine minutes into the game on goals from Grien and Lauren Geisting.

        • Senior Monica Hoyles assisted on three goals, all in the first half, to lead Wyoming to a 3-1 victory over Madeira. Alexis Schmitt, Alyson Ahearn and Jenny Westendorf scored for the Cowboys.

        • Jennifer Bentz scored her second goal of the game, with less than five minutes remaining, to help Turpin to a 3-3 tie with Amelia. Turpin had a chance to win, but a point-blank shot sailed high with 10 seconds remaining.

GIRLS TENNIS: Anderson won its second straight Fort Ancient Valley Conference-Buckeye Tournament, taking all five championship matches, all over Turpin players. The Redskins were undefeated in regular-season league play.
