Xavier grad misses medal

Parker finishes fifth in shooting

By Paul Daugherty
The Cincinnati Enquirer

SYDNEY, Australia — Jason Parker, a 1996 Xavier graduate, finished fifth in the Olympic 10-meter air rifle finals here Monday.

Parker was tied for third after the preliminary round, but slipped to fifth in the 10-shot finals. Still, the 2000 U.S. national champion was satisfied with his performance.

“I thought I had a decent chance to medal after the prelims,” said Parker.

He was behind the leaders by just more than one point, with the finals worth a possible 109 points.

“It wasn't a lot of ground to make up, but I didn't get it done,” he said.

Parker's final round score was 101.1.
