Highlands No. 3 in one national poll
Bluebirds put ranking on line against Elder
By Neil Schmidt
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Highlands High School has climbed to No.3 in the TonyBianco.com ratings, believed the highest national rating for a Greater Cincinnati team since the 1980s.
Moeller, ranked No. 1 several times in the 1980s, had the highest recent climb, reaching No.4 in USA Today's Super 25 early in the 1997 season.
The site lists only Concord (Calif.) De La Salle and West Monroe (La.) ahead of the Bluebirds (3-0), who are ranked in seven of eight other national polls:
5th, Dick Butkus Football Network;
8th, ESPN
10th, Street & Smith's (preseason rankings only);
12th, USA Today;
13th, Sportserver.com;
14th, Fox Sports Net;
15th, rivals.com.
Highlands plays Elder, the preseason No. 1 in Cincinnati, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Paul Brown Stadium. Elder (1-1) is not nationally ranked, but USA Today lists the Panthers ninth in the Midwest Region.
Tickets are on sale at the schools for $14; $10 for students. A crowd of 15,000-20,000 is expected.
