Kroger to add junior pro-am

The Kroger Senior Classic will add a junior pro-am to this year's tournament, bringing the top young golfers in Greater Cincinnati to play with Senior PGA Tour pros.

The new event will be held Sept. 11 at the Golf Center at Kings Island, and will feature 36 junior golfers paired with a Senior PGA Tour player.

The junior event is the brainchild of tournament DIrector Margie French.

“This will be the second junior pro-am like this on the entire pro tour,” French said. “I thought it was so great that the junior golfers got to play a round of golf with the legends of this game that I couldn't wait to start one here.”

Players such as defending champ Gil Morgan will be on hand to play with the junior players.

“It should be a very neat tournament for both the youngsters and the pros,” Morgan said.

As a tribute to golf legend Miller Barber, who is retiring this year from competitive play, the championship trophy will be named for him.
