WUBE 'temporary' show nominated
The big news isn't that WUBE-FM (105.1) has two of the six nominations for the Country Music Association's broadcast personality of the year. What's truly amazing is that one of the two is the temporary Grover, Holly and Bubba Bo morning show that disbanded two months ago.
Grover Collins, his wife Holly Morgan, and long-time newsman Eric Bubba Bo Boulanger filled in for three months (April-June) after DJ Jim Fox was fired for soliciting a minor in Xenia, Ohio.
Midday DJ Pistol Pete Miller also was nominated for a large market broadcast personality of the year. And B105 was nominated for large market station of the year, an award it won in 1998.
I'm more excited about this (morning show) nomination than actually winning, because of the circumstances, says Tim Closson,B105 program director.
Grover, Holly and Bubba are the most surprised of the bunch, but I'm not. They did a heck of a job. It was a tough thing to work through, he says.
Listeners appreciated their efforts, too. The replacement B105 morning team ranked second to WEBN-FM's Dawn Patrol in spring ratings released last week.
In June, Holly asked to leave the morning show and return to being a full-time mother. She will do part-time weekend DJ shifts.
This was by their own choosing. They wanted their life to go back to normal. That was our agreement, that they could leave the show after the (spring ratings) book, Mr. Closson says.
On Monday, B105 introduced a new morning DJ, Dr. Don Carpenter from WYCD-FM in Detroit. The former veterinarian is paired with Mr. Boulanger.
CMA radio winners will be announced during the 34th Annual CMA Awards Oct. 4 (8-11 p.m., Channels 12, 7).
Radio auditions: Want to be a radio talk-show host? WCIN-AM (1480) will hold auditions at 10 a.m. Saturday to find a replacement for 20-year veteran Lincoln Ware.
Applications are available at WCIN-AM, 3540 Reading Road, Avondale, or by calling the station at 281-7180.
The station is looking for a host, hostess or co-host for 1480 Talk which airs 10 a.m.-2 p.m. weekdays.
Mr. Ware left the station for Blue Chip Broadcasting, owners of WIZF-FM (100.9), which soon will program WUBE-AM (1230).
Not on GMA: Viewers didn't see University of Cincinnati professor Pat O'Reilly on ABC's Good Morning America Tuesday because producers canceled her segment about adolescent girls late Monday. It will be rescheduled.
On the air: Highlights of the recent United States Air Show in Dayton, Ohio, will be broadcast 3-4 p.m. Sunday on Channel 9.
Once again: Actor David Clennon, who reprised his thirtysomething Miles Drentell character on ABC's Once and Again last spring, will be a full-time cast member this fall. Miles will continue to make life difficult for Rick Sammler (Billy Campbell).
