Lawyers' journal aims to help advocacy efforts
By Ben L. Kaufman
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Lawyers who belong to the Cincinnati-based National Employee Rights Institute have added a journal to their advocacy efforts.
Vol. 1, No. 1 of the Employee Rights Quarterly was released last week.
Our objective is to stimulate public debate, educate employee advocates, remind management officials about their legal responsibilities, and promote public poli cy favorable to employees, NERI chairman Paul H. Tobias wrote in the inaugural editor's note.
Most of what is available is written from a management perspective, Mr. Tobias said.
That doesn't mean the Quarterly is aimed only at like-minded lawyers, he added. I'm going to try to sell it to management and all kinds of people.
The Quarterly is a commercial venture of NERI and Panel Publishers, a division of Aspen Pub lishers Inc., New York.
Single issues are $55; annual subscriptions are $179.
Sample copies are available from NERI, the think tank created in 1994 and run by Mr. Tobias in the Mercantile Library Building.
Initial articles discuss the assumption that drug testing enhances productivity, violations and misunderstandings of the Family and Medical Leave Act, and protections for the mentally ill in the workplace.
