NEWPORT — The body of a 60-year-old Lawrenceburg man was discovered floating in the Ohio River on Tuesday afternoon.

Police identified the man as Leonard R. Adkins.

Police said a citizen spotted the body floating a few feet from the shore between the Comfort Suites hotel and the Bellevue city line about 5:20 p.m.

The body was fully clothed and included personal items when it was pulled from the river by members of the Dayton (Ky.) Fire Department in their fire rescue boat.

Patrons of the Hooters and Remington's Roadhouse restaurants were asked to vacate outside decks while authorities brought the body ashore.

The investigation is continuing, but a preliminary examination of the body revealed no obvious signs of foul play, police said.

The body was taken to St. Luke Hospital East, where a autopsy will be performed.
