Munoz to try out for U.S. team




        Mason High School's Michelle Munoz, Ohio's 2000 Miss Basketball, was selected Wednesday to try out for the United States' Junior World Championship qualifying team.

        Munoz is one of 42 players age 18 or under invited to the camp, Friday through Monday at Colorado Springs, Colo. Players will compete for 12 roster spots on the U.S. team that will play in the COPABA Women's Junior World Championship qualifying tournament July 26-30 in Argentina. The United States will be coached by University of Connecticut women's coach Geno Auriemma.

        Munoz, a 6-foot forward who will be a senior next school year, led the Comets to the 2000 Division I state title. She has committed to play college ball at Tennessee.
