Miami loses NCAA baseball opener


        TEMPE, Ariz. — Casey Myers and Mitch Jones each homered to lead Arizona State to a 15-7 victory over Miami Friday night in the NCAA West Regional.

        Arizona State sent 11 men to bat in the first inning for seven runs. Jones hit a three-run homer over the left field wall.

        Myers hit a two-run shot in the third to extend the lead to 10-1. He finished 4-for-4 with five RBI.

        Jon Switzer threw three innings and Waldrip came in for four to pick up the win.

        Miami starter Nathan Tekavec lasted 1 1-3 innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits. Catcher George Stegmiller led the RedHawks' hitters, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

        Miami and Creighton, which lost to Texas 5-4 earlier Friday, play today. Arizona State faces Texas in the evening opener.
