Kidnapping suspect to be moved to Ky.

By Kristina Goetz
The Cincinnati Enquirer

FLORENCE — Every day, it is less likely that a computer consultant abducted from a local motel will be found alive, Florence Police Sgt. Bruce Graham said on Sunday.

“Too much time has passed by.”

Even as they searched for Paul Jeffrey Gale, 28, authorities investigated the possibility that he was abducted by a romantic rival.

“We're still looking for our victim,” Sgt. Graham said. “We have no idea where he is. Short of that we're waiting for federal marshals to bring our suspect back to Kentucky.”

That suspect is Greg Marcinski, 23, who lives near Brick, N.J.

Witnesses said a man walked into a Holiday Inn in Florence early April 17, identified himself as an FBI agent, went to Mr. Gale's room and escorted him from the hotel.

Hotel employees said Mr. Gale was handcuffed and put into a white Buick with New Jersey plates. He has not been seen since.

Agents traced the license plate to Mr. Marcinski and charged him with impersonating an FBI agent.

Sgt. Graham said Mr. Marcinski told FBI agents that “he did come to visit him (Mr. Gale) but that he was alive and well and that they were friends.”

Authorities said Mr. Marcinski will be extradited to Kentucky to face abduction charges.

Meanwhile, agents searched the New Jersey home Mr. Marcinski shared with his grandmother.

Agents said Mr. Gale dated Mr. Marcinski's ex-girlfriend, a New Jersey woman whose identity has not been disclosed. She was home when Mr. Gale left the motel; the FBI is questioning her but said she is not a suspect.

Investigators in New Jersey also impounded a 1989 white Buick matching the description of the car seen outside the hotel, said David Beyer, an FBI spokesman in Kentucky.

Mr. Gale is thought to be a British subject with several addresses, including Naples, Fla., and Mount Laurel, N.J. A computer consultant, Mr. Gale was in Kentucky for a pharmaceutical company and business associates reported him missing.

Lynn Ducey of Asbury Park Press/Gannett News Service contributed to this report.
