Hook creates baseball Web site
BY NEIL SCHMIDT
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Former major-league pitcher Chris Hook, a 1986 Lloyd grad, now has a successful Web site.
Hook, who retired from baseball last fall after 11 years including two big-league seasons, 1995 and '96 in San Francisco started www.attheyard.com in 1997. The site includes news and features about all levels of professional baseball though mostly minor leagues and has as its hook daily journals from 20 minor-league prospects.
The idea is to have guys all over the country at different levels tell what's going on in their life, Hook said. Fans can follow and see if they meet their dreams of making it to the big leagues.
Hook said the site receives 18,000 hits a month.
Hook, wife Toni and 2-year-old son Christian live in Flor ence, moving here from Arizona a year ago. Hook also serves as pitching coach for Northern Kentucky University, where he played collegiately.
DAWN RUNNER-UP: Ron Dawn, coach of the Newport Central Catholic boys basketball team, is runner-up for the Courier-Journal's state Coach of the Year honors.
Louisville Iroquois coach Jimmy Just won the award, receiving 18 of the 153 votes cast by the state's head coaches. Dawn got 15 votes. Iroquois went 30-3 and won the Sixth Region; NewCath went 30-6 and won the All A Classic state title and the Ninth Region crown.
