Off-duty Newport officer arrested

DAYTON — An off-duty Newport police officer was arrested Thursday afternoon after officers responded to a domestic disturbance call on Tenth Avenue.

When officers arrived in the 200 block of Tenth Avenue following the 3:30 p.m. call, they found a man — later identified as James Brian Henley — armed with an assault rifle on the front steps, police said.

After a brief exchange of words between Mr. Henley and an officer, he re-entered the residence, where shortly after he was arrested, police said.
