Winner tips off Tranter

Jill Tranter received an e-mail Thursday from Kelly Keeler, who had finished first in the ChoiceCare/Humana Cincinnati Heart Mini-Marathon four straight years.

Keeler wrote of the “rush” she felt winning the 15-kilometer run. Also, “she gave me lots of helpful information,” Tranter said.

The tips paid off. Tranter won the women's division Sunday in 56:32, her best time for the distance and a minute ahead of the goal she set for herself.

Tranter, 29, ran with a pack of men ahead of Annette Bauer, who finished second among the women (59:39), and Deanna Walsh, who was third (59:42).

“At the turnaround, I saw a couple of the girls behind me,” Tranter said. “I knew I was going out easy the first half and work on the way back.

“The hill on Torrence Parkway kind of took a little out of me, but then at the down half of that I recovered and I felt stronger,” she said.
