E. Brown boys eliminated

ATHENS — Eastern Brown's undefeated season ended in 64-50 loss to Malvert in the boys Division III district final at the Convocation Center here Wednesday night.

“Our kids have played hard all year long, and it shows by coming in here at 23-0,” said Eastern coach Rob Buecler. “But the tournament is played until there is just one team left, and this year it won't be us.”

Malvern got 18 points from Adam Chaddock and 15 from Darnelle Thompson. Kyle Stout led Eastern with 19 points.

Eastern took a 22-16 lead midway through the second quarter, thanks to an 11-0 run. But Eastern turned the ball over on its next five possessions, and the game began to slip away.

“Neither team handled the ball very well, and both were just getting one shot and out,” said Malvern coach Dennis Tucci. “When they hit us with that run in the second quarter, we were really searching for answers. Our kids responded very well to the challenge.”

The third quarter was more of the same for Eastern: turnovers. After Stout knotted the score at 29, theHornets went on a 12-4 run to close out the quarter.

“You hate to see any season end, but this one was really tough,” Buecler said. “This has been a very fun year for everyone involved with the Eastern Brown basketball program.”

        EASTERN BROWN — Ben Kirk 4, Kalub Kirk 2, Buecler 3, Stout 19,Hauck 13, Holdaway 4, Dotson 5.

        MALVERN — Chaddock 18, McCurry 4, Findling 7, Thompson 15, Degraffineed 1, Clark 7, Shingleton 12. Eastern Brown ....... 9 16 8 17—50

        Malvern ....... 16 13 12 23—64
