Driver charged with felony after chase

Pursuit crosses several suburbs

BY WALT SCHAEFER
The Cincinnati Enquirer

LOCKLAND — An Avondale man led police on a high-speed car chase through several northern Hamilton County suburbs and a short foot chase near Southland Road before being apprehended Friday morning by Forest Park officers.

Harvey Berry Hummons, of the 5200 block of Reading Road, has been charged with fleeing and eluding police, a felony, and was being held Friday at the Hamilton County Justice Center awaiting arraignment today.

Lockland Police Officer Patrick Sublet signaled Mr. Hum mons to pull over after the officer saw Mr. Hummons disregard a stop sign at the intersection of Shepherd Lane and Wayne Avenue at 7:09 a.m.

Mr. Hummons sped away in a 1989 white Cadillac.

With police in pursuit, Mr. Hummons drove north on Wayne Avenue into Woodlawn, west on Glendale-Milford Road, north on Springfield Pike, west on Sheffield Road, then north on Southland into Forest Park. He then went west on Sharon Road, north on Winton Road, and east on Waycross Road to 11201 Southland Road, where the car flew over a 10-foot embankment into signs and trees.

Officer Sublet said the Cadillac was “in pristine condition” prior to the crash. Mr. Hummons suffered minor injuries.
