UK in race for Princeton High Daniels
BY NEIL SCHMIDT
The Cincinnati Enquirer
It has been seven seasons since a Greater Cincinnatian played basketball for Kentucky. But a local link may help UK land coveted Princeton senior swingman Erik Daniels.
We've got Vince Harrison down there at UK (playing football and baseball), Princeton basketball coach Paul Andrews said. I guess that could be a Princeton connection.
The last local player at UK was another Princeton grad, Todd Svoboda, who played the 1992-93 season as a walk-on center.
The 6-foot-7, 185-pound Daniels averages 19.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and four assists for the 16-4 Vikings.
Temple and Clemson had been Daniels' favorites, along with Marquette and Tulane. UK and Xavier were latecomers in the Daniels chase, but the Wildcats have caught up quickly.
UK coach Tubby Smith showed up nine days ago to watch Daniels.
Erik's parents are real excited about Kentucky, Andrews said.
Daniels probably will pick a date soon to visit UK.
I don't think he knows yet what he wants to do, Andrews said. I'm encouraging him to take his (maximum) five visits.
