The first 2,500 kids at Saturday's Cyclones game got a souvenir Gilbert Dionne jersey, and judging by the team captain's heroics against Milwaukee, the team might want to consider making it a regular event.
Dionne scored a pair of goals in the game's final eight minutes and helped his team turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 defeat of the Admirals in a key Eastern Conference game. The season's second-best crowd of 10,936 watched as Dionne's winning goal came on a power-play with 1:56 left.
It was a big game, said Dionne, second on the team with 26 goals. We had at least 10,000 people here, and 2,500 of them were wearing my jersey. I definitely wanted this one.
The rough game saw 64 stitches administered to three players.
There's a good chance we'll be playing them in the playoffs if one of us doesn't catch Cleveland, said 'Clones coach Ron Smith, whose team jumped two points ahead of Milwaukee for fourth place.
