Cincinnati police arrested a man after two gunshots werefired Monday afternoon from a building on Central Avenue.
Labrant Dixion, 20, address unknown, was charged with two counts of having dangerous ordnance, a police spokeswoman said. An unidentified man was also taken into custody, but no charges hadbeen filed against him.
One of the bullets shattered a window at 1665 Central Ave.
Grand jury lessens charges in shooting
LEBANON A South Lebanon man, charged with attempted murder after police accused him of shooting his neighbor Jan. 20, got a break from a Warren County grand jury.
Grand jury members decided Monday there wasn't enough evidence to support the more serious charge that Charles Hinkle tried to kill 42-year-old Mark Wilson.
Police said Mr. Wilson, who received minor injuries, was shot in the chest when he tried to break up a squabble between Mr. Hinkle and his girlfriend.
The grand jury indicted Mr. Hinkle, 39, on charges of felonious assault, improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, burglary, grand theft and vandalism.
Mr. Hinkle's brother has joined him in jail since the shooting.
Warren County sheriff's investigators charged James Hinkle, of South Lebanon, with intimidating a witness on Friday. Authorities accused James Hinkle of making threats against his brother's girlfriend.
Man, 19, pleads guilty to killing
A College Hill man pleaded guilty Monday to shooting to death Kurk Chappell in June.
Richard Voner, 19, pleaded to voluntary manslaughter after prosecutors agreed to drop a murder charge. He faces up to 13 years in prison.
Judge Thomas Crush will sentence Mr. Voner when the defendant returns to Hamilton County Common Pleas Court on Feb. 23.
Prosecutors have said Mr. Voner shot Mr. Chappell, also of College Hill, in retaliation for a robbery the previous day.
Mr. Chappell, 38, was found shot to death in the side yard of a home on Wionna Avenue.
Brothers accused of stabbings at party ANDERSON TOWNSHIP Two brothers were arrested Sunday and charged with felonious assault in connection with stabbings at a party Saturday.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department charged Aaron Pfeffer, 23, of the 400 block of Warner Street, Fairview Heights, and Eric Pfeffer, 20, of the 6800 block of Whitehall Avenue, Mount Washington.
The stabbing took place during a fight in the 6400 block of Sherman Avenue. Aaron Pfeffer is accused of stabbing Douglas Brown, 19, of Hamilton. Mr. Brown was listed in stable condition at University Hospital.
Eric Pfeffer is accused of stabbing Jacob Day, 23 of the 6200 block of Autumn Leaf Lane, Anderson Township. Mr. Day was treated and released Saturday from Mercy Hospital Anderson.
Man gets 15 years for killing girlfriend
An Avondale man will spend 15 years in prison for strangling his girlfriend and then fleeing to Georgia in her car.
Raymond Akins, 26, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and theft Monday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court. Judge Richard Niehaus sentenced him to 15 years.
Prosecutors say Mr. Akins strangled Laquitta Elliot, of Bond Hill, in October 1998. The 24-year-old woman's decomposed body was found in her apartment on Oct. 23.
Mr. Akins was arrested several weeks later in De Kalb County, Ga.
Cause of trailer fire investigated
A fire that destroyed a College Hill trailer home Sunday night remains under investigation, said Cincinnati fire officials.
The fire, at 7631 Daly Road, began around 11:50 p.m.. A family of three escaped unharmed, but their dog died in the blaze, fire officials said. The fire destroyed the 65-foot trailer home, causing an estimated $25,000 loss.
2 moms accused of endangering kids
Two parents were arrested Monday in separate incidents, both charged with endangering their children.
Each woman face two counts of child endangering, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Lametra Evans, 20, of Winton Place is charged with leaving her two children, 3 and 4 years old, on the street alone in the 900 block of Wells Street. She was arrested in the 3300 block of Warsaw Avenue.
Patrice Anderson, 46, of Fairmount is charged with leaving her twins, age 2, home alone. The children were found by 241-KIDS officials, according to a police report. The two boys were found in an extremely dirty house in the 2500 block of Nottingham Drive, the report said.
Lebanon man held on check charges
A Lebanon man was arrested Monday and charged with writing unauthorized checks totaling more than $7,000 at two banks.
Thomas Birmingham, 35, is accused of writing checks, which were cashed at both banks by three associates who also face felony theft charges, police said. Huntington Bank lost $3,061.03 and Provident lost $4,208.03.
Mr. Birmingham is charged with two counts of felony theft, a fifth-degree felony. Mr. Birmingham gave a tape admission to (the) offense and receipt of the funds, according to the police report.
MU-Hamilton wins $55,000 training grant
Miami University's Hamilton branch has been awarded a $55,000 grant for community work force training programs and small business services at its Business and Industry Center.
The Ohio Board of Regents grant will be used to expand the center's capacity to provide computer training for information technology workers and to develop management training programs for technical managers.
