Late block ensures Ryle upset of Highlands

The Cincinnati Enquirer

        Michael Setters blocked Highlands' potential game-tying 3-pointer with six seconds left to ensure the upset win for Ryle 53-50 in the consolation game of the Ryle Classic.

        Highlands, ranked No.4 in The Enquirer's Northern Kentucky coaches poll, led 38-33 after three quarters before the unranked Raiders rallied for a 20-12 fourth period.

        Setters and Nick Feagan led the Ryle charge, combining for 16 fourth-quarter points. Feagan finished with a career-high 21 points, including three 3-pointers. Setters totaled 19.

        Gino Guidugli scored 20 points to lead Highlands.

        • Madisonville North Hopkins 71, Purcell Marian 63 — Senior forward Spencer Johnson scored 11 points during a 19-5 third quarter as North Hopkins handed Purcell its second loss of the season, in the championship game of the Ryle Classic.

        North Hopkins is ranked No.5 in the Kentucky Associat ed Press top 10.

        Purcell cut the deficit to four points, but the Maroons sank 17 free-throws in the final period to seal the win.

        Jaime Cooper scored 18 points to lead the Cavaliers.
