Mighty Ducks 3, Kentucky 2

The Cincinnati Enquirer

LEXINGTON, Ky — Marc Chouinard scored with 2:06 remaining to lift the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks to a 3-2 victory over the Kentucky Thoroughblades Thursday at Rupp Arena.

It was the third goal and fourth point in the last two games for Chouinard, who knocked a rebound past Kentucky goalie Miika Kiprusoff for the game-winning goal.

“It is nice to see (Chouinard) has gotten himself out of the doghouse,” Ducks coach Moe Mantha said. “We sat him out a game recently (Jan.28 against Hamilton), and he has bounced back like a true professional.”

Rasto Pavlikovsky and Bob Wren scored first-period goals for Cincinnati, which won its second straight game after dropping 12 of 13 games from Dec.30 through Jan.28. Frank Banham supplied a pair of assists and now has points in five straight and seven of the last eight games.

Ryan Hoople stopped 29 shots to pick up his third win in four starts since joining the Mighty Ducks on Jan.13 from the Huntington Blizzard of the East Coast Hockey League.

“Hoople is doing exactly what a backup goalie is supposed to do,” Mantha said. “He's giving us a chance to hang in there and has been making the saves when we need them to give ourselves some confidence.”

The Mid-Atlantic Division-leading Thoroughblades lost their second game in a row and fell to 4-6-1-0 in their last 11 games.
