Freshmen help Boone defeat Holy Cross

        Freshmen Amber Janneck and Abby Newhouse came through in the clutch for Boone County.

        Fouled during the final 45 seconds, both sank pressure free throws that enabled Boone County to pull out a 44-39 victory over Holy Cross in the opening game of the Northern Kentucky Classic at Boone County.

        With Boone trailing by six entering the final quarter, Ciara Henderson scored 10 of her career-high 31 points to pull the Rebels within striking distance.

        Janneck and Newhouse then finished it off.

        • Bishop Brossart 57, Newport 42, Northern Kentucky Classic at Brossart — Two 3-pointers by Carrie Clift to start the third quarter broke open a close game and enabled the Mustangs to defeat the Wildcats.

        Brossart's Katie Schwegmann and Newport's Ashley Mills tied for scoring honors with 16 points apiece.
