Comeback attempt falls short
BAYAMON, Puerto Rico Northern Kentucky rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit, only to fall to unbeaten Missouri Western State 72-69 in the championship of the Puerto Rico Holiday Classic.
NKU (8-2), ranked No.7 in NCAA Division II, trailed 35-24 at halftime. The Norse made 14 of 34 3-point attempts in the second half to get back in it.
But the Griffons made 13 of 17 free throws in the half to hold on.
Reggie Alexander scored 19 points with five blocks and eight rebounds to lead MWS (9-0).
Sophomore forward Craig Sanders (McNicholas) scored 22 points, including six 3-pointers, for the Norse.
