Stuff suffers first loss

Falls 87-75 to St. Louis

The Cincinnati Enquirer

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — After starting the season with seven consecutive victories, the Cincinnati Stuff suffered their first loss of the season Saturday night, 87-85, to the St. Louis Swarm, before 4,715 at the Family Arena in St. Louis.

“We knew coming in to tonight's game that this was going to be a challenge to knock off a first-place team in their own building,” said Stuff coach Joby Wright. “I'm proud of the way our guys started the season, but at the same time, I'm interested to see how we respond tomorrow night against a very talented Trenton team.”

Cincinnati battled back from a nine-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to trail 87-85 with 2.3 seconds remaining. With St. Louis setting up the inbound play, Tremaine Fowlkes stole the pass and puts up a 25 foot shot which bounced off the rim.

Erwin Claggett led the Swarm with 29 points. Moo-Moo Blakney led the Stuff with 20 points, and Wayne Turner added 15.
