Township has 4 board spots open

BY LEW MOORES
The Cincinnati Enquirer

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP — The township is accepting letters of interest from residents to fill four vacancies on zoning boards that determine the growth and development of the area.

Deadline for getting the applications in is Tuesday.

The vacancies, which the township trustees want to fill before the first of the year, include one seat each on the zoning commission and board of zoning appeals, and two seats on the land use advisory board.

Township officials say that while some knowledge of growth and development issues would be a plus, interest in and commitment to the community also are considered.

“Typically, we get a good pool of resumes in,” said Otis Spriggs, township zoning administrator. “They are stakeholders in their community. It's all about having a firsthand involvement in influencing change.”

Trustee Joe Wolterman said the trustees look at a candidate's vision of the future for the township, as well as commitment to a position whose pay is only nominal — $50 a meeting.

He said they consider a candidate's vision, or outlook, because they want board members who are “somewhat compatible” with the philosophy of the board of trustees.

“We recognize they are independent boards, but we wouldn't necessarily want to appoint someone who would want to go in the opposite direction.”

Mr. Wolterman said another quality the trustees take into consideration is whether candidates can take the criticisms that go with the position.

Apply by sending a letter of interest and resume to the trustees, 4200 Springdale Road, Cincinnati, OH 45251.
