River Downs will have a new format for most of its 2000 live meet of thoroughbred racing.
During the first 30 days, the simulcast arrangement with Cleveland's Thistledown in effect the past three years will continue. Each track has seven live races and simulcasts seven from the other track.
Beginning May 19, the 7-and-7 with Thistledown will be in effect only Tuesday and Thursday, with post time remaining 12:55 p.m. The oth er four days of the meet, RD will have a 5 p.m. post time.
We'll run seven or eight live races on the days we begin at 5 p.m., RD General Manager Jack Hanessian said. Live racing should be completed by 8:30 p.m.
The Ohio Racing Commission approved the 2000 dates and the new format at the November meeting.
RD will not conduct live racing Wednesdays except the weeks of Memorial and Independence days.
