Miami hockey team honored
USA Today named the Miami RedHawks college hockey team of the week and the Central Collegiate Hockey Association named junior right wing Pat Leahy and freshman left wing Nick Jardine players of the week for their efforts in Miami's 3-2, 3-0 weekend sweep of No. 3 Michigan State.
The sweep snapped an eight-game winless streak against the Spartans and was the first home sweep of MSU in MU history.
Leahy, a New York Rangers draft choice, was named CCHA offensive player of the week. The Boston native contributed to all six of MU's goals (3-3-6), including a shorthanded and power play goal.
Jardine was named CCHA rookie of the week. He assisted on Friday's game-winning goal and scored Saturday's game-winner, leading all league rookies for the weekend (2-3-5) in scoring.
Freshman goalie David Burleigh stopped 36 of 38 shots and tied the school single-season record with his second shutout Saturday. Senior center Dustin Whitecotton contributed five points to the two wins.
Miami (7-4-2, 4-3-2 CCHA) plays its final home game of the year Dec. 3 against Ohio State.
