Edgewood in semis Friday

Edgewood's quest for a state title continues Friday as it faces Sylvania Southview in the Division II state semifinals.
Southview (12-1), west of Toledo, earned its semifinal berth with a 31-24 victory over Wadsworth in the regional championship game. The teams meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Troy Memorial Stadium, which has natural grass.
The winner advances to the championship game at Canton's Fawcett Stadium against the winner of the Walsh Jesuit (11-1) vs. Uniontown Lake (10-3) game in Massillon.
Edgewood coach Steve Channell begins the week with little knowledge of Southview.
We weren't sure who we would be playing, Channell said. Jeff Lucas has scouted for us this season and it would have been difficult asking him to miss the regional championship game and to go out this week.
As a result, Channell will rely on the three game films the schools are required to exchange the week before each playoff game.
Southview averages nearly 35 points a game. Its offense is led by quarterback Chad Peterson (1,331 yards, 22 TDs, 752 rushing yards) and tailback Brad Stub (1,416 rushing yards.)
Defensively, Southview is led by leading tackler Ben Apgar, a linebacker. The secondary of Tony D'Amico, David Paul, Kirk Jensen and Jeff Rowe also is highly regarded.
Both Edgewood and Southview have qualified for the playoffs four times, but this is their first trip to the semifinals.
