Lebanon-Edgewood has familiar ring

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Edgewood knows the road to the Division II state title goes through Lebanon. The former league rivals meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Division II, Region 8 championship game at Dayton's Welcome Stadium.

“I told (my players) that if they want to be state champions, they must beat the state champions,” Edgewood coach Steve Chanell said.

The matchup has a familiar ring.

“The Edgewood-Lebanon rivalry goes back to the 1970s,” Channell said. “It was

always the 10th game of the season and usually decided the Mid-Miami League championship.”

Two years ago, Lebanon switched to the Fort Ancient Valley Conference and the series stopped.

Edgewood and Lebanon are both running teams, but out of different formations.

“We run the wing-T and they run out of the I-formation,” Channell said. “Lebanon played Loveland, a team that runs a version of the wing-T, and we played several teams that use the I.”

Tickets will not go on sale until Tuesday at the earliest.
