Stuff starts trimming roster

The Cincinnati Stuff went public on Friday, holding an open scrimmage at the College of Mount St. Joseph. Coach Joby Wright left the coaching to his staff as he sat courtside evaluating the talent.
Wright was pleased with the play in the scrimmage, especially the effort of his team. But he acknowledges there is plenty of work to do.
The whole thing in this league is development, he said of the International Basketball League. We have the opportunity to improve ourselves. We feel confident that we'll be able to get better.
One need Wright will address is the frontcourt. There are only five players on the 17-man Stuff roster taller than 6-foot-8. When the team prepares to trim the roster to the league limit of 12 on Nov. 19, the guards are likely to be the victims.
It's going to be tough with the guards, no question about it, Wright said. In the frontcourt, we have to look to see what we have to do to get that to the same level as our backcourt.
Alex Sanders of Louisville scored 27 points to lead the burgundy team to a 107-87 win in Friday's scrimmage. He also pulled down 10 rebounds.
Xavier's Lenny Brown led the white squad with 22 points.
ROSTER MOVE: To get the roster to 17, the Stuff released guards B.J. Flynn of Louisville and Tyson Brit of Xavier and 6-11 Javeres Anderson from Tuskegee.
Soumalia Samake, a 7-2 center from West Africa, is expected to take his place on the team on Monday.
OPEN HOUSE: The Stuff will play host to an open house for fans and season ticket holders Thursday at the Firstar Center. Among the activities will be another intra-squad scrimmage. The event is free and begins at 7:30 p.m.
