Indian Hill 26, Madeira 14

Braves earn school's first playoff victory

Indian Hill overcame a 1-point halftime deficit to score a 26-14 victory over Madeira in a Division V first-round playoff game at Indian Hill on Saturday night.

The playoff victory is Indian Hill's first in school history. The Braves (10-1) meet Ironton, which defeated Wyoming 28-14, next week at a neutral site. Madeira ends its best season in school history at 9-2.

Indian Hill's victory avenges a 26-0 loss to Madeira in the third week of the regular season.

“We made some changes (from the first game),” said quarterback Nick Janning. “I don't think we expected what they did to us the first game, and tonight I don't think they expected what we did.”

“We've had lots of personnel changes and even changed our style of play on offense,” Indian Hill coach Kevin Siple said of the difference in his team. “We jut kept learning and I think we've outworked people. We say we're going home at 5:30 every night and it always ends up being 6:20.”

Trailing 14-13 at half, Indian Hill quickly turned the game around in the third quarter. The Braves went ahead on the first drive of the half when Janning hit Jeremy Hamilton on a 52-yard pass. A two-point conversion pass put Indian Hill up 21-14 with 8:06 left in the third quarter.

Indian Hill's Ben Katz sacked Tim Dooley for a safety with 2:43 left in the game to increase the lead to 26-14.

Madeira was held to minus-9 yards of offense in the second half.

Janning was 12-of-17 for 164 yards.

“We wore them down,” he said. “We stopped the option which is their main thing and there was nothing else for them to do.”

Jeremy Hamilton had 28 carries for 101 yards while Chris Berre added 20 carries for 80 yards and a touchdown.
