Badin (7-3) vs. Wheelersburg (9-1)

Tonight's playoff preview

        • When: 7 tonight.

        • Where: Wheelersburg Stadium, 701 Pirate Dr., Wheelersburg.

        • Tickets: $5.

        • Regular Season: They had no common opponents, and this will be the first meeting between the schools.

        • Playoff History: Badin played in Division III until this season, and this will be the Rams' 13th appearance overall. They won the state title in 1990. Wheelersburg will be making a 14th appearance in the postseason. It has amassed a 13-12 record and won the state championship in 1989.

        • Credentials: Ranked No.1 in Ohio, Wheelersburg is a high-scoring team, averaging 42 points an outing. The Pirates feature a balanced offense that is equally effective through the air as on the ground.

Badin has been outscored by opponents 167-151. The Rams defense has allowed an average of 257.4 yards a game, 160 a game on the ground.

        • Key Players: Wheelersburg: Quarterback Andy Gill has thrown for 1,112 yards and rushed for 400, with tailback Luke Enmett rushing for 1,235 yards while scoring 27 TDs.

Badin: Tailback Josh Turner is one of three backs coach Terry Malone uses. He has rushed for 600 yards on 113 carries, while quarterback Tim Wolf has completed 55 of 153 passes for 744 yards.

        • Key Statistics: Badin has played a predominantly Division II-III schedule, often struggling against the bigger Greater Catholic League opponents. Wheelersburg has played eight of 10 games against Division IV teams. It should be interesting to see if Badin's tougher schedule has prepared the Rams for the Pirates.

        • If Badin wins: It will be the upset of the season in Division IV.

        • If Wheelersburg wins: The Pirates will prove they deserve the ranking and could contend for the state championship.
