Teen arrested for false 911 cell calls
Cincinnati police have arrested a downtown 16-year-old male on charges of credit card theft, inducing panic and disrupting public service after a 10-month investigation found he made scores of false 911 calls.
The police division's Intelligence Section, District 1 Officer Patrick Galligan of the Investigative Unit and senior investigators Jennifer Condo and Mark Smith of AirTouch Cellular's fraud department worked together to track false 911 calls placed from several cellular phones.
Fire officials were dispatched to 58 calls, and police were dispatched to 76 calls.
The investigation also found fraudulent credit card usage of $2,000, though police expect the amount to increase as the investigation continues.
It has not been determined how much money AirTouch Cellular lost.
Work done for now on Reagan highway
The orange barrels are gone and traffic is back to normal on Ronald Reagan Highway. Construction crews Friday finished work on the eastbound side.
Lanes had been closed in both directions for a month so deteriorated sections of pavement could be fixed and another 13/4 inches of asphalt laid before winter.
The closures and traffic backups were a preview of what's to come in the spring, when each side of the highway will be down to one lane for $17.6 million in repairs. Major work is scheduled to start in March, including building an 8-foot-wide shoulder, replacing the median with a concrete barrier wall, lengthening exit and entrance ramps, and repairing bridges.
